The Syro-Russian Orthodox Department of Education oversees
all academic programs approved by the Synod of Bishops in every Sunday School, Christian Education Center, and other lower education schools throughout the Church. It also has
charge over the Consortium of Higher Education Instutions that includes Colleges, Universities, Seminaries, and Specialized Vocational Institutions. In addition, this department serves as the
Central Archives for all diplomas awarded from any school chartered and/or accredited by the Department of Education.
The current director is Dr Basil Gikas of Nea Ionia, Greece. The Department was first
headed by Archbishop Joseph of Blessed Memory, and served through the years by the then Fr Archimandrite Stephen Thomas, Dr Anthony Payne, Father Joseph O'Reilly of
Blessed Memory, Fr Archimandrite Mark Gielow of Blessed Memory, and Professor Tom Roberts, Father Basil Kock, and Bishop Timothy. The Department of Education is
directly under the authority of the Metropolia and its Synod of Bishops. The Consortium has as member schools the following: St Basil Seminary (Nicaragua); St
Mark Seminary and College (Alexandria VA); St Mark Seminary and College Extension (Bolton Ontario Canada); St Nicholas Institute (Dar Es Salaam Tanzania), and St Vasilios
College (Athens Greece); and St Dionyssios Seminary (Athens Greece. |
